Narrated through a deeply personal conversation with longtime friend Tilda Swinton,

WOLF traces the extraordinary life of British musician Patrick Wolf.

A defining artist of his generation, Patrick Wolf rose from the backdrop of early 2000s

London. Shapeshifting between indie popstar and avant-garde artist, he was a maverick of

his time. All until schoolday traumas, grief and his addiction collided, making music a painful

memory.

The film is an exploration of resilience, the burden of being a singular LGBT voice and

nature’s healing ability in finding that voice again. Interweaving present-day, animation and

personal material from over fifty hours of unseen archival footage, WOLF is a journey of hope that shows no-one has to be defined by the shadows of their past.

CINERAMA
"Christian Cargill’s profoundly moving, from-the-heart documentary, Wolf, isn’t just a portrait of Patrick Wolf and his addiction journey; it’s a searing exploration of how the institutional erasure and oppression of young LGBTQ+ people throughout the ’80s and ’90s caused untold harm and created cycles of trauma that are still playing out today."

"Candid and contemplative, Wolf never shies away from the darkness of Patrick’s long journey toward healing or the impact it had on those around him. Yet, it is also a documentary full of hope, love, and heart, only further elevated by Owen Pallett's stunning score of original and reimagined compositions."
